Split – Where Cultures Meet
Much can be said about sailing near Croatia but it certainly won’t be boring – even if you’re an experienced traveller. There’s so much to see and to be done and the waters pose as challenge in themselves. Since anyone who chooses to go there is about to deal with Adriatic Sea, it may be a good idea to get to know a few simple things.
Be reasonable and get your facts together
For instance, you need to pay attention to the wind – or eight different type of winds, to be exact. It’s good to analyze weather forcasts and even be able to recognize main characteristics of each of them. After all, some may be dangerous. One of those is „Bura“ – they say that no one dares to sail when it’s ruling on the waters. However there are some others that are responsible for nice and stable weather (like Mistral). If you get to know them, you may be able to use them to your advantage.
You should also mind the weather. Split’s climate is between humid subtropical and Mediterranean climate – it can’t be classified as any of them because of the number of months with a certain amount of rainfall. You can expect temperatures over 20 degrees from June through September. July is the hottest but it’s still not unpleasant to sail in this period.
Find a perfect place to start
Also, you should think over which of the 56 marinas will you choose. Surely, the most convenient ones for someone who goes to Croatia by a plane and decides to rent a boat there will be the biggest and most popular. One of the three main harbours is Split. It’s the largest city of Dalmatia and the second largest of the whole country. Also, it’s almost the oldest in the area. If you plan a bigger cruise it’s a very comfortable option since it’s close both to some Adriatic islands and Apennine peninsula. Wouldn’t it be incredible to have a quick trip to Bari or Italian Parco Nazionale del Gargano?
What to get excited about in Split?
And anyway, it’s an extremely interesting spots in itself. Being one of the most popular tourist destinations and featuring on the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites, it’s a town where everyone will find something for themselves. Among the cherished places are the Archological Musem and the Museum of Croatian Archaeological Monuments. And the city is planned around the famous and absolutely stunning Roman Palace of the Emperor Diocletian.
A perfect and affordable choice
All in all, it will be a great start of the trip along Dalmatian coast. You’ll be very close to another main marina which is the historic Trogir. But generally speaking you can go anywhere you wont, including fascinating places in Italy.
Just think about it – you’ll have incredible cultural heritage, nice people, wonderful cuisine and wine and fantastic landscape at a very affordable price. Why would anyone think twice about yacht rentals in this area? You don’t need to save up for the more tropical regions as this can be just as exciting. Especially since the cultural offer may be even richer than in those.
