The unknown Andaman waters The Andaman Sea region is still not discovered by many sailors, while there is a lot to see in this incredible part of the world. That vast area is full of amazing islands, and many of them can be accessed only from the sea. The Andaman offers lovely beaches, crystal clear water, amazing culture and interesting activities. Diving and snorkeling are the major attractions in that area as the Andaman Sea is home for many exotic fishes and hides the rarest varieties of corals. Tourists who decide to explore some of the islands here, may charter beautiful yachts and spend wonderful time sailing on the Andaman Sea. Those who plan vacations in that region should acquaint themselves with the “Monsoon” term. It may sound dangerous as many people associate it with storm but as a matter of fact it means “season”. In the Andaman Sea there are two seasons and they are the Southwest Monsoon and the Northeast Monsoon. The first one is not good for sailing as it is the rainy season and it lasts from April or May till November. Sailors should plan their vacations between December and April, during the NE Monsoon which is drier and guarantees great winds. The temperatures in the Andaman Sea ranges between 30°C and 35°C. Attractions of the Andaman Islands Port Blair is the largest city and the capital of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. It may be a great place to start your journey, but before you will sail away there are some places worth visiting. The Cellular Jail was built between 1896 and 1906 and it was used as a prison for people involved in a struggle for the Indian’s independence. Lately it was declared the National Memorial and is open for tourists. During your visit in Port Blair you may also learn something about the history of that region. There are two museums which attract attention of tourists. These are Anthropological Museum and Samudrika Naval Marine Museum. However, the main attraction of the Andaman Islands are islands themselves with their amazing beaches and crystal clear water. Visiting some of them by boat is the best way of travelling in this specific area which enchants every single tourist who decides to spend some time here. As a matter of fact, you may find beautiful white sandy beaches almost on every island on the Andaman Sea, but there are some unique spots which sailors just must visit. One of the most spectacular beaches, which is also far from tourist centers is Radhanagar Beach on Havelock Island. The sand is warm and silky while through turquoise waters you may observe the incredible marine life. Another spot, the Ross and Smith Island Beach, is very unusual as two lonely islands are connected by a natural sandbar. The view is just breathtaking and you may stay here all day sunbathing, swimming, snorkeling or scuba diving. Tourists who are interested in ecology should definitely visit the Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park and the Ray Hill on Mayabunder. The first one is home for some endangered marine species like sea turtles, while the latter has prepared eco guesthouses and some activities which can bring people closer to the pure nature. |
