The Canary Islands Sailors just love the Canary Islands! And no one should be surprised, as it is a real paradise, considering the fact that there is everything a sailing fan may need: perfect sailing conditions, wonderful surrounding and incredible culture. All eight islands allure tourists who are looking for beautiful weather, warm crystal clear water and favourable trade winds that make it possible to sail in that area for the whole year. And while spending the time on the land you will also have a chance to see some natural wonders, find out more about the history of that region and meet incredibly hospitable people. Is there anything not to like about the Canary Islands? Discover the paradise The Canary Islands are an integral part of Spain and they are located in the Atlantic Ocean, near northwest coast of Africa. The area is an ideal stop for sailors who are crossing the Atlantic to the Caribbean, so between November and January the islands are full of yachts preparing to start their journey. But you don’t have to cross the Atlantic to enjoy the sailing in that area, as a trip between the islands is also very exciting and such holiday on a yacht may bring you only pleasure. All islands included in the Canary Islands are worth visiting as there are numerous attractions waiting for tourists, but some of them are more popular than others. Chartering the yacht in those locations is very simple and the selection of boats is really big. 1. Tenerife The largest of the Canary archipelago islands, Tenerife is the most popular one among tourists. What is so special about it? It has wonderful sailing conditions for the whole year, there are over seventy kilometres of lovely sandy beaches where you can relax, and the weather is just perfect. If you start your journey on Tenerife or it is just a stop, you need to get on the land and visit the Teide National Park with the world’s third largest volcano, called Mount Teide. You can also go sightseeing in the charming towns and villages or choose to watch dolphins and whales in the open ocean. The island has much more to offer and we just need to discover it. 2. Gran Canaria Gran Canaria is of course a perfect destination for sailing, but it will also satisfy your needs concerning any other way of entertainment. You can find a secluded beach and spend a day sunbathing or be more active while windsurfing, diving, climbing and biking. Tourists can easily explore the natural beauty of the Gran Canaria both on land and under the water observing the spectacular marine life. And if you are looking for some exciting night life the island’s resorts will be a perfect place for you. 3. Lanzarote Lanzarote has some strong winds, but as well as any other island in the Canaries it is a very good spot for sailing. And during your journey in that area you will have to observe the waters very carefully as you can usually notice some turtles, dolphins, whales and fascinating flying fish. You also need to visit Timanfaya National Park which is entirely build on the volcanic soil. |
