    Description

Trogir – The Magic of the Old Towns

Adriatic coast is certainly a fascinating spot for any sailing enthusiast and Croatia presents plenty of opportunities to see fascinating places on your boat rental and do unforgettable things. There are free main marinas there and one of them – Trogir – has a special historic feeling to it.

The story that goes on for over 2000 years

It’s located on the small island between mainland country and Ciovo and it has been included in the list of World Heritage Sites of UNESCO. It was found almost 300 years before Christ by Greek colonists. By then it was called Traugurion. It had been a major port until Romans came in. In 1123 it was demolished by the Saracens and since then it was ruled by Venetians and then became a part of Habsburg Empire, got occupied by Italy during World War II and finally became a town in Second Yugoslavia and (from 1991) Croatia.

Find the roots of the city in it’s wonderful sites

Of course, there are traces of every of those periods in this beautiful town which will amaze everyone who’s after cultural experience. Keep in mind that Trogir is the most impressive Romanesque-Gothic complex in Central Europe and it’s only a part of what the city has to offer. It’s the mi of Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque... and of course a modern touch, which for instance lies in the growth of shipbuilding industry.

What are those sites that everyone gets excited about? 10 churches and another buildings from 13th century form a city core. Then there are walls from 15th century and city gate from 17th century. There’s also Duke’s Palace, the Cathedral and the Fortress Kamerlengo.

You’ll get to Trogir by flying to Split and then catching a bus to the town. And what’s even better, the sightseeing can only be a start to your amazing trip. From this marina you can sail to other main points of Croatia – to the national park, to Dubrovnik or to some less known charming harbour where you can have a lovely view at the nature.

Don’t allow the wind(s) to surprise you, sailor

The important thing to consider while out on the Adriatic are various wind types. Get to know the crucial ones just so you’ll be able to recognize them when the time comes. The dangerous one may be „Bura”, simply because it’s cold, dry and unpredictable. It blows from the north-west. On the other hand the ones like „Jugo” or „Maestral” may prove helpful to the sailors. And there are five other important winds so pay attention to the weather forcasts and be prepared for each of them. By the way, the average temperature is around 20 degrees from June to September.

It’s no wonder that Croatia is becoming so popular with the tourists from around the world. It offers everything from cultural heritage through beautiful nature to nightlife. And it’s still very affordable. Don’t hesitate to rent a yacht and start your adventure there. It’s a country of over 50 marinas (not counting the private ones) and countless possibilities for all the aspiring sailors.
