Description
What is so special about St. George’s is its architecture dominated by lovely white houses with red roofs. Moreover, it is a place where the two main Grenadian harbors are located, the inner and the outer, that is the Carenage and the Esplanade. The inner harbor itself is a picturesque, vibrant place with a statue called the Christ of the Deep, which proudly occupies its center. Moreover, you can find there many useful institutions, such as library or post office. The second harbor is mainly a vast market, where fishermen sell fresh seafood. In the market you can also find a wide range of other local products, such as meat, fruit or spices. Make sure to visit Grenada National Museum, where you can learn a lot about Grenadian history, and admire pieces, such as marble bathtub that used to belong to Napoleon Bonaparte’s wife, Josephine or a rum still. Another interesting building in the capital city is St. George’s Anglican Church and Tower House, which used to be a plantation house. You can also find here historic forts, which used to mark out the city limits: Fort George, Fort Federick and Fort Matthew. The first one is located at the top of Richmond Hill from which you can have a wonderful view of the city. Moreover, St. George’s offers you a chance to spend lovely time in the bosom of nature. There are wonderful Bay Gardens, Botanical Garden and Zoological Garden. Let the visit in St. George be only a beginning of your Grenadian adventure. The entire island has much to offer. As it is also known as the Spice Island, make sure you visit at least one of the spectacular nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla or cocoa plantations. The most impressive ones are: Dougaldston Spice Estate and Belmont Estate. We also recommend you stop by the River Antoine Rum Distillery, where you can see how rum is produced. What is more, Grenada has two wonderful national parks: Grand Etang and Levera, where you can experience hiking or biking in the surroundings of luxuriant tropical flora and fauna. In Grand Etang you can also admire magnificent waterfalls. You will see that a chartering yacht in Grenada will enable you to spend a wonderful, relaxing vacation full of fascinating activities. Cruising in the region gives you many possibilities, you can even visit different island each day.
