Description
Lavrio is a charming harbor town with a fascinating history. We highly recommend you spend some time there before you start to explore the rest of Greece. In the ancient times, Lavrio used to be a place where the silver mines were located. Now their remains in Lavirion District Mines are popular tourist destination. Moreover, it was also famous for mineral extraction; and what is interesting, you can still find there some crystals while, for example, walking on the beach. If you are interested in the topic, you should visit the Mineralogical Museum of Lavrion. In the past few years the city has developed significantly and allures visitors from all over the world. Lavrio is full of local restaurants and cafes situated mostly along the coastline and the main street. However, it is not crowded like other harbor cities in Greece, so you will be able to explore its region in relaxed atmosphere. You can also find many interesting sites just outside Lavrio, so we highly recommend you spend some time sailing along the coast before you start to hop between the nearby islands. These are, for example: astonishing ruins of the Temple of Poseidon and much smaller Temple of Hephaestus located on the Cape Sounion and the remains of the Theatre at Thorikos. However, the major advantage of boat rental in Lavrio is that it is located within a short distance to spectacular Cyclades. The Cyclades are represented by a group of breathtaking islands and islets, which despite its growing popularity maintain its unique Greek atmosphere and charm. In the Cyclades you will find every feature that a perfect holiday should be consisted of: spectacular cliffs perfect for climbing trips, endless sandy beaches, charming architecture, historical sites, as well as excellent local cuisine. Moreover, the Cyclades are surrounded by warm and azure waters of the Mediterranean, perfect for swimming, diving and every other water sport you can think of. If you decide to charter a boat in Lavrio, Kea will probably be your first stop. When you are there, visit its charming villages; especially Ioulida where you can see a grand castle. Ios, due to its diverse landscape, is perfect for hiking and bike riding but it is also famous for exuberant nightlife. Mykonos is a must-stop as well: you will be stunned by the charming beauty of its buildings and the picturesque coastline. We also recommend you spend some time admiring ancient ruins on Naxos and then go swimming in pristine waters that surround the island. However, you cannot miss a sunset on Santorini – it will take your breath away! But if you want to spend a quiet, relaxing day, sail to unspoilt Anafi. |
