Description
Bodrum – The Precious Treasure of Carian Coast While little is known about the Carians and even Homer only mentions them briefly, the Carian Coast is certainly a fascinating area for any sailing enthusiast. It’s definitely a long one, bordering the Lycian Coast in the East and Ionia in the North. The most exciting part is shorter though and stretches between Bodrum and Marmaris. It’s where you’ll find the most exciting remaints of Ancient culture, the most beautiful beaches and charming little villages that will welcome any traveller. Some practical information Where to start your sailing adventure? Bodrum looks like the most convinient port (but obviously it depends on where you can fly to). It’s only 40 minutes from Bodrum airport and the marina is close to the town and local markets. The other most popular choice, Marmaris, is 2 hours from Dalaman airport. There are two separate bases where you can rent a yacht – one near the promenade and the other outside town. Keep in mind that the wind is usually from the North or North-West and the average force is 4 in the summer season. Turkish cuisine – can it get any better? When you are there, don’t forget to try local cuisine which really has much to offer. If for instance kebab is your fastfood of choice, in Turkey you’ll get to know a completely different tasting one. There’s also a tradition to order a plate of meze as appetizers (works similary to Spanish tapas). And Turkish sweets (like baklava) are absolutely heavenly. What to see and where to go? There’s also much sightseeing to be done. In Bodrum alone you can spend days tracing ol civilizations. Check out the Mausoleum, Myndus Gate or Antique Theather. And if you’re looking for different kind of attractions just go for a camel ride or visit one of the oldest Turkish baths. Och, and you really need to go shopping on a Market Day in Bodrum. Remember though – haggling is very much needed there! And if you happen to stay in Marmaris, do visit the Old Town, the Marmaris Castle and the charming dolphinarium. Last but not least, you should pay attention to the beauty of natural environment along Carian coast. Surely you’ll see azure water and lovely beaches but also incredible rocky coastline and amazing plants. Think about staying at less popular places to really see what Turkish nature looks like. A short summary The most experienced boat charter enthusiasts can try to combine cruising along Carian coast and visiting Greek Islands. Anything else to remember? In Turkey you’re charged extra for so-called „Transit Log”. It’s usually between 100-120 euros. You basically pay for the yacht papers, which need to be completed for every new yacht charter. Also, upon visiting Turkish towns and cities you should keep in mind that local traditions may differ from the ones you’re used to. You ought to respect them, just like you would want a visitor to respect the habits in your country. That way, you’ll be able to really get to know different culture and maybe even make new aquitances. |
