Description
Spain - make sure you visit that one! When sailing Spain, it is absolutely vital that you visit one of the numerous marinas in Barcelona, which offers hundreds of boarding places for all sizes of vessels. The port takes about ten square kilometers and is divided to three parts: Port Vell, Free Port and, the most important part for yachts and boats, Port Olimpic, which also has a more and more famous yachting school. So if you have never sailed before and would like to give it a try, make sure you visit that one. The North-East part of the Spanish coastline has twenty six beautiful ports, welcoming you whenever you feel the urge to stand on solid ground. The climate around the Spanish coastline is ideal for sailing, with mild, fresh air and clear waters, the slight winds and the average temperature of around sixteen degrees Celsius. Thanks to the four types of wind, poetically called Tramontanie, Gabi, Levante and Mediodia, make the Spanish sailing region one of the most pleasant to be in, not too hot and not yet chilly, so a sailor’s dream come true. Alike in other parts of the Mediterranean, the sailing season in Spain lasts several months and reaches its peak between July and August, when the prices are the highest and the ports are the most crowded with yachts and motor boats. All along the Costa Brava, there are multiple ports inviting the amateurs of sailing, both the beginners and more experienced ones. Most of them offer several hundred boarding places with the fees not exceeding the average prices in the Mediterranean. The towns of Lloret de Mar and Tossa de Mar, show off their treasures of medieval architecture and due to that fact they have once been called the “azure paradise”. If you prefer diving to sightseeing, you will certainly find the perfect place for that in the Illes Medes islands, but also between La Falconera and Cala St. Francesc. Also, the Spanish Costa Calma offers your boat some boarding places, no matter if you choose a motor boat or a powered catamaran. However, the Port Vell has more of these, as the so called Spanish center of trade and sailing tourism. After leaving the boat safely in the marina, you can visit tens of restaurants, shops and market places, offering you the very specialties of the region, as well as the rest of the world. Another attractive place to visit during your Spanish sailing vacation is the caves around the Islas Formigues, with their natural treasures waiting to be discovered. Apart from sailing, you can see numerous caves, lonely bays awaiting visitors and offering peace and undisturbed contact with the nature. The port of Cala de Calella you will be most welcome by the hospitable locals. However, if you are more into art, the Spanish Costa Brava is the perfect place for you, with numerous museums, art galleries etc. including the museum of Columbus. Those who enjoy active vacation can of course visit the clear, sunny beaches of the Spanish coast and play volleyball, table tennis or try a bit of kitesurfing and windsurfing at reasonable prices. Everyone will find something interesting after getting off the boat. |
