Description
Dominican Republic - something more about sailing If you have never visited that beautiful place, the Dominican Republic, a part of the Great Antilles, is a marvelous region to see from aboard the boat. Moreover, if you have no sailing experience at all, you can charter a fully crewed vessel without worrying about all the necessary permissions and licenses, as well as get to know something more about sailing without paying extra money at a sailing school. There are tens of chartering companies, each of which offers a wide variety of boats, including all sizes of exclusive motor boats and catamarans. The only limitation is the budget you with to spend on your sailing vacation. As for the climate, which is one of the most important aspects to take into account, the warmest months of the year in the region of Dominican Republic are from June to October. The average temperature during the day reaches more than thirty degrees Celsius. In September however, it is almost certain for the hurricanes to appear, so you should really consider not scheduling your sailing vacation at that time. The “chilly” months start from November with the average temperature of about twenty eight degrees Celsius. What to see in the Dominican Republic? Obviously the picturesque beaches with the marvelously clear water, soaked in the tropical sun. The varied shoreline with the heavenly, lonely bays, hidden caves, peninsula…all of that can be viewed from aboard the boat. Want to see something more than the shoreline? Consider joining the sailing experience with some diving-the majestic, underwater treasures of the Dominican Republic will certainly appeal to you. The prices of chartering a vessel can vary from fifty euros a week for a motor boat built in 2013, suitable for approximately ten passengers, up to about seven hundred euros for a larger, more luxurious powered catamaran that would be able to take over a hundred passengers aboard. Moreover, travelling by a catamaran is one of the safest options possible, especially if you consider taking a smaller family member with you. The more experienced sailors will surely discourage you from taking a child aboard a monohull. One other thing worth remembering, it is better not to take your own food aboard, as it will most likely not make it through the customs. What we suggest is to consider taking some extra funds to buy meals right where you plan to travel, although it may seem slightly expensive at first. Where to start your sailing trip? We would suggest Santo Domingo, one of the most popular starting points, but also Casa de Campo, Las Galeras, La Romana, Puerto Plata or Boca Chica. In fact, no matter where you start, the experience will be simply unforgettable. Santo Domingo is suitable not only for smaller yachts, but also for larger motor boats, as the several marinas can offer a boarding place to almost any time of vessel. Although some people consider it a bit too occupied and not the cleanest place in the Dominican Republic, it does not lose anything of its popularity among tourists worldwide. |
