The charming Montenegro
In 2006 people of Montenegro decided that they want to become independent and since then they are no longer a part of “Serbia and Montenegro” union. Apart from the fact that officially it is a young country, Montenegro has plenty of historical sites that are definitely worth visiting. Thanks to its amazing coastline and growing number of investments in that part of the country, it became a very popular destination among sailors. Montenegro has an incredible charm, especially if you decide to explore it on a boat.
Top 4 places to stop by
The landscape of Montenegro is mostly characterized by mountains and long coast. The weather is mostly pleasant but we have to remember that in the Mediterranean Sea summers are hot and sunny while in autumn, winter and spring there is much more rain. Because of the fewer tourists and appearance of characteristic winds in that region, the best time to visit Montenegro is spring or autumn. But where to go first?
1. Of course, it all depends on where do you start your journey but under no circumstances should you omit the Bay of Kotor. It is simply breathtaking and extremely interesting place. The city of Kotor, which has its origins in the medieval times, was listed as the World Heritage Site by the UNESCO. The old town is really amazing with its historical buildings, like Saint Triphon Cathedral, and its narrow streets which leads you to small squares. What is also very unique about the Kotor is the landscape. You are surrounded by beautiful but mysterious mountains, which you may admire even during your meal in one of many cozy restaurants.
2. Tivat is also a part of the Bay of Kotor. Among the sailors it is best known for the luxury marina and residential village on its coast, called Porto Montenegro. It was opened in 2009 and is constantly developing. Today, there are 250 berths, luxury residences, retail stores, bars, restaurants and places where you may entertain yourself.
3. If you would like to spend a lot of time at a beach, you should definitely visit Budva. Mountains here aren’t so overwhelming as in Kotor and the water is much clearer. Besides long beaches, where tourists love to lie in the sun and relax, Budva is a very charming city that everyone will enjoy. The old Budva is a perfect place for a long walk which may end in one of the restaurants or bars.
4. Herceg Novi is a city which was founded in 14th century and thanks to the fact that throughout years it has had many different rulers, its architecture is quite unique. The old city is full of historic buildings that are for sure worth exploring. As many other towns of Montenegro, Herceg Novi’s streets are very narrow and usually ends on small squares that have really welcoming atmosphere. Those who like active ways of spending free time should take a hike up Mount Orjen and enjoy the incredible view on top of it.
Herceg Novi’s Harbour has about 30 berths in its offer and the coves in that area are famous for crystal clear water. This place may definitely meet the expectations of any sailor who decides to spend some time here.
Wherever you decide to charter the boat, in Montenegro you may count on excellent landscapes, crystal clear water and welcoming people who will make sure that you enjoy your stay.
