Italy - perfect for sailors
As one of the most popular countries among tourists, Italy has to offer plenty of sailing opportunities to meet the expectations of even the most demanding customers. And even those will not be disappointed when they charter a yacht in that particular country. The most popular regions to sail in the region are the islands of Tuscany, Sicilia, Sardinia and the region of Napoli. The peak of the sailing season is August, which means that most Italians have their vacation in that time and, subsequently, the prices are the highest. The rest of the year will definitely be slightly cheaper for the amateurs of sailing adventures.
The Mediterranean climate of Sardinia makes it perfect for sailors all over the year, along with the three kinds of wind: scirocco, mistral and levante. These also make the region especially attractive for a variety of water sports. Besides, the average temperature of the region in autumn is about twenty one or twenty three degrees Celsius. Thanks to that the sailing season lasts for several months, beginning in spring and ending in late autumn.
In the region of Tuscany, the best time to charter a yacht or a motor boat is between the beginning of May and the end of November. The places to visit are surely the islands of Elbe and Montecristo, Giannutri, Capraia and Pianosa.
The Sicily and the Eolian Islands, the third most popular sailing region of Italy is one of those perfect places for a sailing experience as it is said to always be ideally windy. When in Sicily, be sure you visit Catania, Messina, Palermo. One of the most beautiful places in the region, apart from the marvelous coasts, is the Selinunte, with the famous ancient temple. The most popular starting point of Sicily is the Trapani. From there, only a few miles part you from numerous minor islands with picturesque shorelines, the sandy beaches, green, silent bays and breathtaking volcanic cliffs.
Also, make sure that when sailing in Italy, you sail around the Pelagian Islands with the Lampedusa Linosa, the Liparian Islands with Lipari, Salina, Stromboli, Alicudi, Filicudi, Panarea and Vulcano, with the fascinating, colorful coastline.
Looking for other places to visit when sailing in Italy? These would definitely be Rome, Corsica and Capri. The picturesque coastline, welcoming marinas and plenty of opportunities after leaving the boat ashore, friendly locals, restaurants and taverns-everyone will find something interesting.
Depending on what kind of boat you are willing to charter, as well as the time of the year your journey starts in, the prices vary between one thousand and four hundred euros up to four thousand five hundred euros per week. If you’re booking in advance or you plan to book the boat for more than a week or two, some yacht charter companies can offer about five or ten percent discount.
If you’re planning a bareboat charter, make sure you have all the permissions necessary in the region, otherwise you will need to charter a fully crewed boat, which would be slightly more expensive.
